activities, and the answer is almost universally yes. The commitment, in principle, is there. And yet the gap between that commitment and what actually happens in practice remains stubbornly wide.<\/p><p>\u00a0<\/p><p>Understanding why requires looking beyond obvious barriers &#8211; inadequate facilities, insufficient funding, lack of adapted equipment &#8211; to the less visible ones that are, in many ways, harder to address.<\/p><p>\u00a0<\/p><p>One of the most significant is what might be called the confidence gap. Youth workers who have not received specific training in working with young people with disabilities often report a deep uncertainty about how to proceed. They worry about getting it wrong &#8211; about saying something inappropriate, about not knowing how to adapt an activity, about being unable to respond if a participant experiences difficulty. This uncertainty can lead to well-intentioned avoidance: not explicitly excluding anyone, but not actively creating the conditions for inclusion either.<\/p><p>\u00a0<\/p><p>Closely related is the knowledge gap. Inclusive practice is not something that most youth workers learn through their general training. It requires specific knowledge &#8211; about different types and degrees of disability, about adaptive methodologies, about how to design activities that work for mixed groups, about the legal frameworks that underpin the rights of people with disabilities. Without access to this knowledge, even motivated youth workers are working with incomplete tools.<\/p><p>\u00a0<\/p><p>There is also, more uncomfortably, the assumption gap. Many of the barriers to inclusion are not physical or logistical but attitudinal &#8211; rooted in unconscious assumptions about what young people with disabilities can and cannot do, what they want, what their role in a group should be. These assumptions are rarely malicious. They are often invisible even to the people who hold them. But they shape decisions about programme design, about who activities are marketed to, about whose voice is heard in planning processes.<\/p><p>\u00a0<\/p><p>Addressing these hidden barriers is central to the work of CB4leisureYwD.
